Condolence message on the passing on of Father Alex Muyebe, SJ
The Board, Management and staff of Panos Institute Southern Africa (PSAf) are deeply saddened by the passing on of former Jesuit Centre for Theological Reflection (JCTR) Executive Director, Father Alexander Muyebe, SJ who passed away on 8th November 2024 after a short illness.
Father Muyebe was a key figure in Zambia’s civil society, having been associated with many good governance initiatives and movements, among them the Zambia Civil Society Access to Information (ATI) Coalition ,and the Zambia Civil Society Debt Alliance, both of which he served as Chairperson until his passing. He was also a key member of movements such as the Open Government Partnership country steering committee, where Panos is also member.
As an organisation, we benefited immensely from Father Alex’s principled leadership and contribution to the development of a strong civil society in Zambia and beyond.
We will greatly miss Father Alex and his commitment to creating a better Zambia for all. We pray for God’s comfort and strength upon his family, colleagues at the JCTR and the wider civil society movement, the Catholic church, the Jesuit community, his friends, and all those he touched.
May His Soul Rest in Eternal Peace.
Vusumuzi Sifile, PSAf Executive Director
